ANANTAPUR: Five persons of a family of Kalyanadurg in Anantapur district ended their lives in a suicide pact after consuming poison in their house on Wednesday. Two of them died in the house itself and the other three in the General Hospital. According to the police, Laxminarayana (55) and his wife Kamalaxamma (50) died in their house, their sons Madhusudhan (34) and Trivikram (28) and Madhusudhan's wife Bhavani (26) succumbed to the poison in hospital. Laxminarayana and Trivikram were agents of postal savings schemes. Their suicide pact came to light when the milkman went to their house.
Financial problems
Circle Inspector of Kalyandurg B. Srinivasulu stated that in a suicide note left by the family they mentioned that financial problems were forcing them to commit suicide and nobody else was responsible. It is feared that they did not pay about Rs. 10 to 15 lakhs collected as recurring deposit scheme instalments from depositors and had utilised it for family needs. Pressure had mounted on them as the depositors had been forcing them to pay the sum of matured deposits.
