HYDERABAD: B.V. Raghavulu, State CPI (M) secretary, has suggested that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy reconsider the Government's decision on the location of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Medak district. Ryots protest against poor power supply

ANANTAPUR: Irate farmers vexed with erratic power supply even during the spells assured by the electricity officials laid a siege to the AP Transco sub-station at Yellanur in the district on Wednesday. They also locked up the officials for a couple of hours. They lamented that their crops and orchards were withering due to erratic power supply to the farm sector. - Staff Reporter

SI suspended

KADAPA: Badvel Urban Sub-Inspector Vinay Kumar Reddy has been placed under suspension for unduly delaying registration of a case on a recent group clash in Poolabavi street in Badvel town.

The court ordered an enquiry into the delay in booking the case. The SI was suspended following an enquiry by OSD of Kurnool Rajasekhar, who confirmed delay in registering the case. - Staff Reporter

Pongamia seed price enhanced

KURNOOL: The procurement price of Pongamia bio-diesel seed has been increased to Rs. 10-a-kg from Rs. 6, according to a press release issued by Vice-Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Cooperative Oilseeds Growers Federation T. ANANTAPUR: The police seized a lorry-laden with red sanders during vehicle checking on Tadipatri-Gooty road near Bandarlapalli in the district on Wednesday. Rs. 1.36 cr. released for pensions

KADAPA: Collector M.T. Krishna Babu said on Tuesday that Rs. 1.36 crores has been released for disbursing pension to 66,952 beneficiaries in Kadapa Municipal Corporation, six municipalities and 40 mandals for December.

Lifer for double murder

Sangareddy: The Judge of Fifth District and SC and ST Court D. Chiranjeevi Babu has sentenced R. Kistaiah of Raikode to life imprisonment besides levying a penalty of Rs. 10,000 for the murder of his sister Radhaboina Padma and her sister-in-law Golla Ranemma. According to a press release, the court delivered the judgment after hearing 20 witnesses. Kistaiah committed the double murder following a land dispute with his sister. - Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: An Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) team led by Karimnagar DSP M. Laxminarayana and Adilabad CI M. Kiran Kumar on Wednesday trapped Suddavagu project Deputy Executive Engineer Venkataramana while accepting illegal gratification from a sarpanch.

Funds released for teachers' pay

HYDERABAD: School Education Director P.Krishnaiah has issued orders releasing Rs.83 crores as grant for meeting the salary needs of aided and municipal teachers for the fourth quarter.

He also released Rs.25 crores as grants for the salaries of the non-teaching staff of Zilla Parishad high schools.

Lifer for killing father

ELURU: District judge K.V. Giridharan on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to Karri Venkanna Babu, 20, a resident of Jeelugumilli mandal, for killing his father Mukkaiah alias Tammaiah.

Two knocked down fatally

VIZIANAGARAM: Two unidentified persons and two buffaloes were knocked down fatally reportedly by an unidentified vehicle on Ramabhadrapuram-Salur Road under Salur town police station limits in the early hours of Wednesday. While one person was killed on the spot another died at K.G. Hospital in Visakhapatam where he was admitted by a constable on night patrolling, K. Sivunnaidu, head constable said. - Correspondent
