IN THICK OF ACTION: A scene from `Pruthibi Kanduchi'.
BERHAMPUR: `Jara', a tribal love story produced by the Priya theatre group of Jeypore in Koraput district, was adjudged the best produced play at the 16th south Orissa drama festival that concluded in the city on Wednesday. Himadri Ray, writer of the play `Jhada' enacted by the Maa Gramdevati Natyasangh of Pudamari in Ganjam district, received the award as the best playwright for his depiction of bureaucratic hassles that the common man faces. `Dayani', a play staged by Damayanti Kala Parishad, Kotpad of Koraput district, bagged the awards for best actor and best actress. Satrughna Gouda was adjudged the best actor while his heroine in the play Alpha Nayak bagged the best actress award. Anjali Rani Haldar bagged the best supporting actress award for the same play. M. Tripathy won the best supporting actor of the festival for his performance in the play `Jara'. Yagnadutta Dalpati was adjudged best child actor for his performance in the play `Akashi Kanya'. There was a special award for the best display banner produced by the drama troupes, which was bagged by the play `Jhada'. Convenor of the Ganjam Zilla Mancha Kalakar Sammilani Nagendra Tripathy and its secretary Ramesh Moharana said their efforts provided scope for rural artistes to showcase their talent.
