LUCKNOW: A constitutional crisis looms large over Uttar Pradesh with the State Government and the Raj Bhavan on a collision course over the convening of the Assembly. While Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and his Cabinet colleagues have decided to go ahead with the session from January 15, Governor T.V. Rajeswar has prorogued the House, which was adjourned sine die on December 14, 2006. Marathon Cabinet meet The decision to reconvene the House was taken at Tuesday night's marathon Cabinet meeting. The Cabinet said that the session would be held in continuity notwithstanding the note sent to the Raj Bhavan on January 3 for proroguing the House. The Governor, who has returned from New Delhi, prorogued the Assembly. Raj Bhavan sources confirmed that the file sent on January 3 was signed only on Tuesday and returned to the Government on Wednesday. As the Governor was in New Delhi, the file was sent to him there for his signature. The sources said Tuesday night's file for extending the Assembly session was also signed on Wednesday and sent to the Government. The sources told The Hindu that after the Assembly was prorogued the note for extending the session was rendered infructuous.
