KOZHIKODE: Reproductions of classic paintings are being exhibited by Guernica Art Gallery on Jafferkhan Ground in Kozhikode. The first exhibit is, of course, Guernica, a famous painting by Pablo Picasso, reproduced by A.K. Sudhan. The exhibition will conclude on Thursday. Mehrab Bachan K.P., partner of the gallery, says 20 artists were got together to plan a mega exhibition and set up the gallery. Guernica, a painting for world peace, was against fascism. Among the reproductions on show are Raja Ravi Varma's Thalementhiya Maharastra Vanitha (Maharashtrian lady carrying a platter), Damayanti and the Swan, Jadayu Vadham (The killing of Jadayu) and There comes Pappa. There are 160 reproductions, crafted by the artists through hard work for more than five months. Acrylic, oil and fabric painting are the media used. Watercolours are also there. A highlight of the exhibition is the 15 murals. Among these, Last Supper by Sasi Edavarad is an attempt at experimenting yet remaining true to the mural style. Vinod Pattanippara is the chief artist, leading the team of painters from different parts of Kozhikode district.
