CHENNAI: It is the season for books, books of all kinds. And a translation of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's autobiography need not be an exception. B.S.Raghavan, former director (political), Home Affairs Ministry of the Central Government, launched `Udal Mannukku,' a Tamil translation of General Musharraf's `In the line of fire,' on Tuesday. Published by Kizhakku Padippagam, a division of New Horizon Media, the book has been translated by Nagore Rumi. Retired military intelligence officer R. Hariharan who spoke on the book, said the Indian and Pakistani armies were often compared with each other. "Though the origin is the same, the two armies are very different." He remarked that from the compensation received by an army general to the degree of autonomy in decision-making, several aspects were different in the two countries. B. Raman, retired bureaucrat, said reading the book was important because Pakistan was India's adversary and Musharraf was at the helm of affairs. He asked readers to review the book critically as it was easy to get carried away by the narrative. Mr.Raghavan said translation was not an easy job and lauded author Rumi for bringing out the essence of the original text in simple and comprehensible language. Managing director of New Horizon Media Badri Seshadri said they were in the process of identifying international top sellers and translating them into Tamil. "We don't want Tamil to be left behind. The idea is to offer titles that are doing well internationally to the Tamil audience as well. It is up to the reader to evaluate the content." The book, priced at Rs.250, would be available at Kizhakku Padippagam's showroom (phone: 42009601 or 42009603) and at leading bookstores.
