HYDERABAD: GITEX India 2007, an event that began on Tuesday, witnessed an important initiative when the Institute for Electronic Governance (IEG), IT & C Department, signed an MoU with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and California State University, USA. The MoU envisages collaboration in areas of e-governance, data standards, service-oriented architecture in a project titled `Open Knowledge Initiative' (OKI). It also aims at opening the doors for an OKI consortium to benefit Andhra Pradesh by improving skill sets of students and increasing employability. While citizens will get improved online services, the corporate world will get new technology to use. The concept of open course as practised in MIT will be extended to help students here with classroom lecture content. Through I-Labs, students will have web access to MIT's experiments. This apart, the association with Computer Science Corporation, USA will give students access to their labs, promoting innovative technological research. Also, the Microsoft Corporation and IEG signed another MoU under which Microsoft will work with Government partners to strengthen IT competency in local communities. Students in the State will thus have opportunities to develop skill sets on nex-gen Microsoft tools and technologies including .Net. These apart, Microsoft and IEG will also work together on five e-governance projects.
