New MTC services begin

From T. Nagar to Tirupporur and Maraimalai Nagar

CHENNAI
: The Metropolitan Transport Corporation on Wednesday launched a new service connecting T. Nagar and Tirupporur near Mahabalipuram, signalling the extension of the radius of the Corporation's operation from 40 km to 50 km.
The bus service would be operated as `Yellow Line' route.
Another similar service would be operated between Maraimalai Nagar and T. Nagar (route number 118) as a `Blue Line' service. The T. Nagar-Tirupporur (No. 119) would stop at Kalavakkam, Kelambakkam, Navaloor, Shozhinganallur, Thorappakkam, Perungudi, Madhya Kailash, Anna University, and Saidapet. Two buses would be operated on the route, MTC authorities said. The Maraimalai Nagar-T.Nagar service would stop at Kattangulathur, Potheri, Guduvancheri, Vandalur, Perungalathur, Tambaram, Pallavaram, Guindy, Saidapet before reaching T.Nagar.
On both the routes deluxe buses alone would be operated.
In the first week of November, 2006, the Government issued orders to the MTC extending its operation radius up to 50 km.
A few days ago, the MTC introduced a new service between Padappai and T. Nagar, covering a distance of 45 km.
The Corporation would introduce 50 new vestibule buses before mid-March. Similarly, 150 low-floor buses would be added to the fleet strength by March this year, the authorities added.
