Cell planned for question bank

TO COORDINATE the introduction of multiple choice questions in undergraduate examinations, Bangalore University will set up a separate cell, headed by a professor as coordinator and comprising professors from different university departments.

The coordinator will procure the question-bank books available in the market in different subjects to create a library. Besides, the University Registrar will soon write to the heads of all affiliated colleges to contribute to the question database. The questions will have to be prepared by teachers who take the respective chapters in a particular subject.

According to the university Vice-Chancellor H.A. Ranganath, the cell would conduct a series of workshops and meetings of various Boards of Studies. The answer books for the Multiple Choice Questions will be in the form of OMR sheets.

Mr. Ranganath said some private agencies had offered to prepare a question bank, but the university decided against it as the charges quoted were exorbitant. Meanwhile, the University Syndicate at its meeting on Wednesday decided to formulate new uniform guidelines for the appointment of 16 positions. The fresh guidelines would be finalised by the next Syndicate meeting, Mr. Ranganath said.
