NAMAKKAL: Steps will be initiated to remove encroachments in `poramboke' lands, Collector G. Sundaramurthi has said. Participating in the special mass contact programme organised in Oruvanthur village in Mohanur here on Wednesday, he said that the district administration would not hesitate to evict the encroachers. He was reacting to the complaints made during the programme that poramboke lands in the village had been taken over by encroachers. The Collector said that a new road would be laid between Mohanur and Kattuputhur at an estimated cost of Rs. 40 lakh. An anganwadi centre would also be constructed in the village. Receiving petitions from the people, the Collector assured them that steps would be taken to redress their grievances. He received a total of 457 petitions. Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, Renuga Devi, District Supply Officer P. Rajamanickam, District Adi Dravida Welfare Officer Thangaraj and senior officials were present.
