Bangalore: Two devotees of Sri Vishvesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math have expressed "shock and pain" over the incidents and media reports surrounding the attempt to murder case filed against him. S.P. Bhat and K.V. Rao have in a press release stated that the swamiji is a "pious swamiji following religious tenets in the strict sense" and "is actively involved in several social movements". He has established social institutions, Vedic gurukuls and hospitals and is known for "broad, reformative social service", they have added. A large number of his devotees are senior citizens who look upon him as an "icon of purity and blessings", they have said. Saying that the "devotees are pained by newspaper reports containing the complainant's version", they have said that newspapers should refrain from publishing reports on the incident that are "capable of creating a public opinion and also give room for avoidable rumours, speculations and gossip". The reports in press, they have said, "shatter the minds of members of the community, as also the citizenry who seek solace in the swamiji".
