VINTAGE: Unforgettable Mithun Chakraborty
Mithun Chakraborty or "Mithunda'', as he is still fondly called by millions of his fans across the country, will soon shine on the small screen. As a tribute to the charismatic film star who is still worshipped by his loyal fans, Max will air a fortnight-long festival titled "Lage Raho Mithunda" beginning January 15. Hindi cinema lovers will be treated to a delectable array of some of Mithun's biggest hits that captured the imagination of people across the country. While Mithun's fashion sense was aped by millions of youth, his skills in martial arts drove many youngsters to taking lessons for themselves. Coming from the City of Joy, Mithun's first film was in his mother tongue Bengali. Made by well-known filmmaker Mrinal Sen, "Mrigaya" that hit the theatres way back in 1976 brought Mithun into the limelight. His credentials as a sensitive, brooding actor were also firmly established as he won a National Film Award for Best Actor for his role in "Mrigaya". There was no looking back for Mithunda thereafter. Today he has over 200 films to his credit and seems set for a lot more. From this coming Monday to Friday Max will air the cream of Mithun's blockbusters from 5 p.m. His fans remember him as India's first dancing sensation. This festival promises to delight a large number of cinema lovers who have grown up watching the pulsating steps of the king of disco dancing. The festival features some of the biggest dance hits in the history of Indian cinema like "Disco Dancer", "Dance Dance" and "Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki". It will also showcase Mithun's memorable performances in movies like "Boxer", "Agneepath", "Daata", "Pyar Ka Devta", "Pyar Ka Mandir" and "Mujrim".
