Project to beautify Kappad beach

KOZHIKODE: Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan will lay the foundation stone for the Rs.1.5-crore Kappad beautification project on January 13.

The project envisages provision of basic amenities to tourists on the Kappad beach. The beautification project includes building of footpaths, lighting up the beach, landscaping, toilet facilities and opening of kiosks. P. Viswan, MLA, will preside.

P. Sathi Devi, MP; district panchayat president K.P. Kunahmmedkutty; Tourism secretary, V. Venu; G. Unnikrishna Pillai, District Collector in - charge, among others, will participate.

Mr. Balakrishnan will also lay the stone for an eco-tourism project at Thusharagiri earlier in the day.

Linking of hilly terrains

The project envisages linking of the hilly terrains of Puthuppadi, Kodencherry, Tiruvambadi and Kooranji panchayats to create the Thusharagiri eco-tourism corridor at an estimated cost of Rs. 87.3 lakh.

George M. Thomas, MLA, will preside. M.P. Veerendrakumar, MP, will be the chief guest.

Road inauguration

The Tourism Minister will also inaugurate the Chembukadave-Thusharagiri Road, built at a cost of Rs. 35 lakh.

He will also inaugurate the second phase of the Thusharagiri Tourism Project, completed at a cost of Rs. 25 lakh.
