NELLORE: In a bid to compete with the Indian Railways, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) will soon press into service special buses between Nellore and Chennai, which can take passengers to the destination in just two-and-a-half to three hours. "With hundreds of commuters preferring the Railways to buses due to low fares, the APSRTC has decided to woo passengers by introducing special services, which can take them much faster than trains. To begin with, the corporation will commence bus service between Nellore and Chennai right from 5 am to 7 pm in a few months," APSRTC Nellore Regional Manager D. John Bhaskar told The Hindu on Thursday. Subsequently, the corporation will introduce services between Nellore and Vijayawada, with the journey taking just four-and-a-half hours. The RTC will also press into service buses from Nellore to Bangalore via Penchalakona (Rapur mandal) and another between Nellore-Varadayapalem for devotees of `Kalki' bhagwan.
