KARUR: The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) and Sarswathi Krishi Vigyan Kendra organised a training workshop on Integrated Watershed Development Project and Drought Prone Area Project for the elected members from Aravakurichi and K. Paramathi block of Karur district. The DRDA Project Officer, M. Madhavi, spoke on the importance of the schemes and the need for adopting technologies on water conservation in crop cultivation. The Executive Engineer of Agricultural Engineering Department, S. Elavarasan, detailed various soil conservation techniques. The Assistant Director of Agriculture, Chinnasamy Krishnan, explained the cultivation of alternative crops best suited for rainfed area. The Collector, T.N. Venkatesh, released a guide on soil and water conservation techniques and called upon farmers to adopt organic farming techniques in a big way. The Lead District Manager, K. Chandrasekaran, explained the financial support being extended by the banks for Government schemes, especially for rural and agri-related ventures.
