BANGALORE: Sequences from the poetry of some of the great men of English literature and also Rabindranath Tagore will be brought to life through Indian classical dance at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall on January 14. Pt. Vishwamohan Bhat, Grammy award-winner and "mohana veena" player, will score music for the programme organised by brothers Prasanna Kasthuri and Pulikeshi Kasthuri. The sequences are taken from the works of poets such as Shakespeare, Wordsworth, Byron, John Keats, W.B. Yeats and Maya Angelou. "Rainbow-II" has been rendered by musicians including Pt. Parameshwar Hegde, Vidushi Nagamani Srinath, Smitha Bellur, Chaitra, and M.D. Pallavi. Flautist Praveen Godkhindi is also part of the team. The production is an attempt to bring more patrons to the art of dancing, according to Prasanna Kasthuri, the Art Director of Soorya Performing Arts. It was aimed at expanding the traditions of Indian dances beyond what the ancestors had passed on to us, he said, adding that this included crossing the limitations of routine Indian philosophical and mythological themes. The two brothers will felicitate their guru Naramanda for his being conferred the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for 2006. The programme will start at 6.30 p.m. The Shantala Arts Academy may be contacted on ph: 23374758.
