`Policemen' dupe elderly woman

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Posing as policemen, two men cheated an elderly woman and took away her Rs. 30,000-worth gold chain in Basavanagudi police station limits on Wednesday afternoon.

The police said two men accosted Indiramma (74), a resident of Thyagarajanagar, while she was on her way to State Bank of Mysore's Basavanagudi branch to collect her husband's pension.

They introduced themselves as policemen and told Indiramma to remove her gold chain as the robbers were targeting elderly women in the area. They made her remove the chain, wrapped it in a paper and returned it to her.

After returning home, Indiramma found that the packet contained two stones and the two men had made away with her chain estimated at Rs. 30,000. The Basavanagudi police have registered a case.
