Committee to be set up to provide grading to colleges

Special Correspondent

Academics from various varsities and centres of excellence to be on the panel

GULBARGA: Gulbarga University proposes to set up a committee of academics from other universities and centres of excellence to study the infrastructure available in colleges, particularly professional colleges, and provide them grading. Disclosing this at the Academic Council meeting of the university here on Thursday, Vice-Chancellor B.G. Mulimani said that a similar experiment was undertaken successfully by Bangalore University a few years ago and this had enabled the colleges affiliated to that university in developing infrastructure. Referring to complaints of colleges not following the guidelines stipulated by the Local Inquiry Committee (LIC) visiting them for continuing affiliation or giving new affiliation, Prof. Mulimani said the constitution of an external committee would ensure that this condition was fulfilled. Grading of colleges would ensure transparency in terms of facilities they had. The issue cropped up during a discussion on the report submitted by the committee that visited B.Ed. and B.P.Ed. colleges affiliated to the university. Members, who spoke on the subject, pointed out that colleges seldom followed the conditions stipulated by the committee for getting affiliation and pleaded for a foolproof mechanism to ensure that they provided all infrastructure and qualified teachers to students. The meeting approved a proposal for establishment of Nijasharana Ambigar Choudayya Research Chair.
