Makkal channel celebrating its maiden Pongal

CHENNAI: The four-month-old Makkal television channel, floated by Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss, is celebrating its maiden Pongal with a host of special programmes on January 15-17.

At 6.03 am on all the three days, there will be a 30-minute programme, featuring newly-wed couples who will be celebrating their first Pongal. There are slots for folk songs and tales of different regions of the State, besides a puppet show.

At 5-30 pm on these days, there will be children's event with their participation in devotional music and traditional games. On January 16, a documentary on "jallikattu" will be shown and at 7 p.m., viewers can have a glimpse of prominent personalities celebrating "mattu pongal."

Dr. Ramadoss told presspersons that the four months had shown that there had been a "great support" from the public to the channel. "We have proved that we can run a television channel with a difference."
