BANGALORE: After airports, it is now the turn of major bus stations and bus depots in the city to get a major security upgrade. Transport Minister N. Cheluvaraya Swamy said the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) had decided that in view of the incidents of terrorist attacks it would step up security measures at Kempe Gowda, Shivajinagar, Shantinagar bus stations and BMTC corporate office on K.H. Road in the City. The annual cost of security is Rs. 6 crore, he said. The task of conducting a security survey in all depots, workshops, bus stations and corporate offices of the BMTC has been given to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
CCTVs
Based on its recommendations, close circuit televisions (CCTVs) would be installed at all depots, four major bus stations, central workshops and corporate offices, he said. The department urged CISF to depute the services of one sub-inspector, two head constables and three constables from CISF on deputation for a five-year period to impart training to BMTC personnel. The BMTC's security guards were being trained to handle firearms, fire fighting and the basics about explosives at the Armed Police Training School, Yelahanka. They would be deployed at the BMTC locations, the Minister said.
