Pipeline leak at Kummi

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The supply of drinking water from Aruvikkara to the city was disrupted late on Friday night following a leak on a 1,200-mm concrete line ferrying water to the reservoirs at Vellayambalam and Thirumala at Kummi. The pumping of water from Aruvikkara was stopped shortly after 11 p.m., said KWA officials. The drinking water supply to many areas, including Sasthamangalam, Vellayambalam, Palayam, Statue, Pulimoodu, Ayurveda College and East Fort will be fully disrupted on Saturday. The supply of water to Pattom, Thirumala, Poojappura and Vattiyoorkavu will be partially affected. The repair work is expected to be over only by Saturday evening. — Staff Reporter

Police remove parishioners

Thiruvananthapuram: The police on Friday removed as many as 200 persons who blocked the Perumathura-Thumpa road. The problem began when members of the Pallithura parish attempted to march to the KINFRA apparel park in protest against the setting up of a cement manufacturing unit there. Members of the Thumpa parish attempted to prevent the protestors stating that they would not allow any disruption of the normal functioning of the KINFRA park. The situation was defused following a meeting between parish leaders at the Kazhakuttam police station. — Staff Reporter
