Emoting with dexterity

Staff Reporter

C. Libin

KANNUR: Thirteen boys were given `A' grades in the folk dance competition in the 47th State Schools Arts Festival on Saturday.

C. Libin is just one among them. But his performance deserves special mention because Libin is not as privileged as many of his competitors are. Libin lives at the SOS children's village home in Aluva.

"He was brought to us when he was just two days old," said Sajana, M. Joseph, a counsellor with the SOS.

"We take care of abandoned children like Libin and take care not to make them feel that they do not have a family."

Impressive depiction

"Libin, a student of St. Francis D. Assissi ES, Ashokapuram, Aluva, impressed the judges with his portrayal of a woman who makes a living by selling pappadam's." He depicted, with dexterity, the emotions of a mother who is forced to make her children work after the father deserts them.

Good make-up and appropriate costumes helped achieve the desired result. James, Libin's dance teacher, was delighted.

Appeal

"I am really happy with his achievement, as we came here after winning an appeal. I had to teach Libin this particular item within just a couple of days. He had portrayed another theme at the district-level competition and we were advised to change it for the State festival," he said.
