Savings of SHGs in Dharmapuri has touched Rs.70 crore

Administration has disbursed loans to the tune of Rs.125 cr.

Dharmapuri: The district administration has formed 8,000 groups and disbursed loans through nationalised banks to the tune of Rs.125 crore for starting various ventures. The savings of Self-help groups in the district has touched Rs.70 crore, said Collector Pankaj Kumar Bansal at a function here on Saturday. The self-help group movement was first started by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in the combined Dharmapuri district, he said.

Indicators

Mr. Bansal said that the district was backward in certain vital indicators including education and health. The female literacy rate in Dharmapuri district was only 49.1 percent.

Special campaign

A special campaign will be launched through Valarkalvi Thittam shortly to improve the female literacy rate in the district.

He asked the group members to initiate steps to enrol all out-of-school children in appropriate alternative schools and innovative education centres.

He stressed on the importance of toilets and explained about the implementation of various government schemes. The State Bank of India, Pennagaram branch, had disbursed revolving fund worth Rs.3.75 crore to 487 SHGs till date he said.

Revolving fund

The Collector also disbursed revolving fund to the tune of Rs.1.36 crore to 86 SHGs during the programme. Assistant Manager State Bank of India V. Subramani was present.
