Allow States to fix quota, says Vaiko

CHENNAI: The power to fix quota in jobs and educational institutions should rest with State governments and the Constitution has to be amended to allow this, MDMK general secretary Vaiko said on Friday, in response to the Supreme Court's ruling that Schedule IX laws were subject to review. The Tamil Nadu Reservation Act providing for 69 per cent reservation falls under the said schedule. Reservations were necessary to protect social justice and the DMK Government had failed to safeguard this, he said.
