Karunanidhi must resign, says Vaiko

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: MDMK leader Vaiko has said Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi must resign owning responsibility for the violence during Chennai Corporation polls, and in deference to the orders of the Madras High Court.

Referring to the judgment passed by Justice F.M. Ibrahim Kalifulla on a batch of petitions filed by various political parties, including the MDMK, Mr. Vaiko said the Chief Minister must order dissolution of the Corporation Council.

Citing strictures against top officials, the MDMK general secretary said the State Election Commissioner, Director General of Police and the Chennai City Commissioner of Police should be suspended pending inquiry.

As for the court direction to hold fresh polls to 99 wards in Chennai Corporation, he said polls must be held in all the 155 wards as the remaining wards also witnessed violence and fraud.
