CHENNAI: Low-cost editions of University Press dictionaries for the various branches of science are now being distributed by Orient Longman.

Most volumes have more than 2,000 entries, explaining frequently used terms in the field.

The editors have chosen a broad understanding of the function of dictionaries, including issues of historical and philosophical concern and modern research in the sciences.

Flexible approach

This flexible approach enables including brief timelines on themes such as development of technology and changing population dynamics and line drawings to illustrate everything from structures of molecules to the workings of a flowchart. Recent advances in the fields have also been touched upon.

Biochemistry, atomic and nuclear physics, cell and molecular biology, ecology, biotechnology, Internet and multimedia are some of the new branches of science that have been explained in individual volumes. Dictionaries of earth sciences, chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics are also available.

All titles in the series are priced at Rs.225 or Rs. 205.

Cross-references, appendices with more resources and sources of information and lists of useful websites have been included to make the dictionaries student-friendly.
