Krishna retires as KPSC chief today

Special correspondent

H.N. Krishna

Bangalore: Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) chairperson H.N. Krishna, who retires from his position on Sunday, said he had initiated several reforms in the recruitment system during his over 10-year tenure and brought credibility to the commission.

He told presspersons that he had introduced transparency in the examination system through bar coding of answer scripts, providing carbon copies of answer scripts to candidates, introducing second evaluation and so on. Recruitments were made in record time during his tenure.

Precedent

Mr. Krishna said he had set a precedent for improvements in public service commissions of other States and some of these radical measures had not been initiated even by the UPSC.

Asked about charges of corruption and nepotism levelled against the commission during his tenure, he said he would not like to discuss them at this point of time. He said he was "thinking of" initiating legal action against publications, which had written about the alleged irregularities.
