BIDAR: To promote Kannada in border areas, the State Government will start a school for every ten students. This will not only address development issues, but also ensure that people in border areas do not lose touch of Kannada, Agriculture Minister and district in-charge Bandeppa Kashempur said here on Friday. He was speaking at a programme to felicitate Bhalki Hire Math seer Sri Basavalinga Pattaddevaru in light of the math getting the Karnataka Ekikarana Award.

He lauded the contribution of the math in spreading awareness about Kannada and in starting education institutions in the district nearly a century ago. Sri Channabasava Pattaddevaru, late seer of the math, did a commendable job in promoting Basaveshwara's philosophy by setting up the Anubhav Mantap in Basava Kalyan, he said.

"Home Minister M.P. Prakash has promised that the Government will build a memorial for Sri Channabasava Pattaddevaru in his native place, Kamal Nagar in Aurad taluk. I will follow up the proposal," Mr. Kashempur said.

The State Government was considering making certain important changes in the crop insurance scheme.

Bharatiya Basava Balaga president Babu Wali urged the Government to name the Rang Mandir after Sri Channabasava Pattaddevaru. Minister for Animal Husbandry Revu Nayak Belamagi; MLA Prakash Khandre; Congress president V.K. Patil; BJP leaders Basavaraj Patil Ashtur, Narayanrao Mannalli, Ashok Guttedar, Ramesh Pandey, and others were present.
