Government hints at tough action

The outfit is acting on the dictates of a foreign power: Narayanan

On board PM's special aircraft: Talking tough, the Government on Saturday said it would pursue the ULFA in a manner it had avoided so far and asked the people of Assam to reject the banned militant group as it was possibly acting on the dictates of a "foreign power."

Signalling the Government's determination to firmly counter stepped-up violence by the ULFA that has left 70 dead in Assam, National Security Advisor M.K. Narayanan said: "It depends on the people of Assam. They must reject the ULFA because the leadership of ULFA, Paresh Barua and Arabinda Rajkhowa, is completely out of step with the views and aspirations of the people of Assam," Mr. Narayanan said. — PTI
