Facelift for railway station

Works to be completed in two months: official


  • Additional DRM inspects developmental works
  • Both platforms to be extended by over 50 metres

    ONGOLE: The Ongole railway station will be one of the super model stations being developed in the Vijayawada railway division and works will be completed in the next two months, according to Additional Divisional Railway Manager K.V.V. Satyanarayana.

    Speaking to newspersons here on Saturday, Mr. Satyanarayana said that Nellore, Ongole, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Kakinada town were being developed into super model stations. After inspecting the developmental works like circulating area, elevation of the station building, concourse, platforms etc, he complimented the architect for giving a beautiful elevation to the station building.

    Electronic display

    The Railways had been improving facilities at the stations for the last two years spending Rs. 3 crores. Landscaping and illumination with high-mast lamps made the station look beautiful, he said. Electronic display was provided for coach guiding on platforms. Parking space was provided for cars, autorickshaws etc. He wanted local officials to enforce parking regulations with the help of the police.

    Mr. Satyanarayana said that both the platforms were being extended by over 50 metres on northern side to accommodate 26 coaches and the work would be completed in the next two months. Concrete surfacing of the island platform also would be completed soon.

    He said that the Railways would construct a function hall at a cost of Rs. 75 lakhs near the station for the benefit of its employees. It would also be let out to outsiders on nominal rent for marriages, cultural programs, meetings etc.

    Inspects quarters

    Mr. Satyanarayana inspected the staff quarters, which were inundated in recent floods due to drainage problem. He assured the employees that a stormwater drain would be provided parallel to the road. It would be able to divert sewage water of the municipality away from the quarters. He sought the cooperation of the municipality in this regard.
