Letting their skills run wild

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: From electronic smoke detectors to biogas cars and burglar alarms to the economics of farmers' suicide.

Degree students of St. Joseph's College (Autonomous) let their creativity and scientific skills run wild at the science and social exhibition organised at the college from Thursday to Saturday. Exhibits by students from the Physics, Economics, Chemistry, Biology, Electronics and Humanities disciplines included a model of a rocket launcher using solid rocket propellants, super conductors, surge protectors for home appliances, metal detectors, digital timers, projects on the Gross Domestic Product of the country and the economic impact of farmers' suicide.

One of the highlights was a biogas-powered car designed by physics students, which was fitted with a 50 c.c. TVS engine.

Students from the Humanities Department had exhibits on the life and works of actor Rajkumar.

The valedictory function was held on Saturday.
