Sri Lankan firm to set up unit at Chintavaram in Nellore

  • The 750-acre apparel park will consist of 20 textile units
  • It is expected to provide jobs to some 30,000 people

NELLORE: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy will visit the district on January 16 to lay the foundation stone for an apparel park, which will be set up by the Sri Lanka-based MAS Holdings at Chintavaram of Chillakur mandal.

According to officials, the Chief Minister will arrive at Chintavaram at 10 a.m. and lay the foundation stone for the apparel park. Later, he will address a public meeting at the village and leave for Anantapur at 11 a.m.

Meanwhile, District Collector M. Ravi Chandra, Superintendent of Police K. Laxmi Reddy as well as other senior officials visited the village and finalised the venue for the public meeting.

"Security has been beefed up and special teams have been deputed to keep a close watch on the entire area," the SP said.

    $200 million

The 750-acre apparel park, which consists of 20 textile units, will be set up at an investment of $200 million.

It is expected to provide direct employment to some 30,000 people while around 45,000 people will be employed indirectly.

The MAS Holding Limited had in fact planned to set up their units near Menakur of Nellore district.

Keeping in view of the extra expenditure to lay a 42-km pipeline to dispose effluents into the sea, the promoters chose Chintavaram.

Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) authorities agreed to set aside 750 acres at Chintavaram, Ballavolu and Addepalli villages near Gudur.
