State to raise LPG, kerosene shortage issue at Delhi meet

    TIRUPATI: The State Government proposes to take up with the Centre all issues concerning civil supplies, especially the crisis in the supply of LPG and the kerosene at a meeting specially being convened for the purpose at Delhi on January 19.

    This was disclosed here today by Commissioner for Civil Supplies G.N. Rao at a review meeting he held here today to take stock of the situation vis-a-vis the distribution of essential commodities through the fair price shops in the district.

    The Commissioner said that with a view to check black-marketing and irregularities in the working of the fair price shops, task forces would be constituted for every revenue division under the leadership of the RDOs concerned and asked the authorities concerned to cancel the licences of the FP shops which were found indulging in malpractices.

    Hike in commission

    Rao said the Government was also actively considering hiking the commission being paid to the FP shop dealers and pointed out that of the 40,501 shops in the State, as many as 32,860 were in rural areas alone.

    He said that two lakh bogus ration cards were weeded out after the Government switched to the Iris camera mode for a foolproof distribution of cards.

    Reeling out statistics, the Commissioner said that the department was distributing 2.4-lakh tonnes of rice to 1.6-crore white-card holders in the State per year.

    B. Rajendraprasad, Chittor Joint Collector, who presided over the meeting said that ration cards were distributed to 1.73 lakh eligible people in rural areas and to 96,562 families in urban areas in the district.

    Among the others who participated in the meeting were Srinivasulu, Chittoor District Civil Supplies Officer, M. Siddaiah, Marketing Officer and Babaiah, Tirupati RDO.
