KOTTAYAM: Various organisations at Aappaanchira, the ancestral village of K.G. Balakrishnan will celebrate his accession as the new Chief Justice of India with a day-long `pakalpooram.' Instrumental music programmes presented by local groups will be followed by the formal inauguration of the celebrations by Minister for Finance T.M. Thomas Isaac and Minister for Cultural Affairs M.A. Baby. The celebrations will showcase folk art forms such as shinkari melam by women artistes, panchavadyam, chendamelam, pambamelam, duff muttu, karaka mayilattom, kaavadi, pozhikkaal, pookkavadi, kottakkavadi, karadikali, kuthirakali, garudan parava, theyyam and ammankudom. The cultural programmes will conclude with fireworks and the distribution of payasam at 11.30 a.m. The villagers will organise a public meeting in the evening. MPs K. Suresh Kurup, P.C. Thomas, MLAs P.J Joseph, K Ajith, Thomas Chazhikkadan, P.C. George and the former MLA Stephen George are expected to participate. A message from Justice Balakrishnan will be read out at the function. The celebrations will conclude with a ganamela and mimicry show at night.
