KOCHI: Ministries of Health and Social Welfare are deliberating on steps to help the HIV positive, said P.K. Sreemathi, Minister for Health. She was speaking after inaugurating the valedictory session of the Sneha Sangamam, organised by Council of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Kerala (CPK+) at here on Saturday. Instances of HIV positive children being deprived of education were unfortunate, she said. The function showed society's support to HIV positive people, said A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, District Collector. He also announced a welfare scheme for the poor and needy among the group. B. Thottathil Radhakrishnan, Kerala High Court judge, delivered the keynote address. Ms. Sreemathi distributed prizes to children from the group. The prizes were instituted by Kochi Refineries Limited. The official declaration of Council of Women Living with HIV/AIDS in Kerala (CWK+), the women's wing of CPK+, was made at the valedictory session. Earlier inaugurating the Sneha Sangamam, Sebastian Paul, MP, said that the emerging global economic scenario was preventing the country from producing and selling medicine in reduced rates. K. Babu, MLA, presided. C.K. Manisankar, Deputy Mayor here, and Rajan Khobragade, project director of Kerala State AIDS Control Society; Mr. Hanish; K.K. Abraham, general secretary, Indian Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS, spoke on the occasion.
