KOLLAM: Minister for Animal Husbandry C. Divakaran has said that if it will benefit the dairy farmers of the State, the Government will consider hiking the price of milk. Inaugurating a public meeting organised in connection with the 48th State conference of the Kerala Livestock Inspectors Association (KLIA) here on Saturday, Mr. Divakaran at the same time said that under the given situation he is doubtful whether a hike in milk prices will benefit the farmers. The Minister said that step have been taken to make Kerala self-sufficient in milk. He added that if the employees of the Animal Husbandry Department (AHD) cooperated, the State will be able to become self-sufficient in milk within an year. The Government will immediately sanction the week off for livestock inspectors. He said that the AHD appears to be the most marginalised department in the State. The Government was taking steps to change that face and make the AHD one of the most important departments of the State, he said. He informed that the Government considers opening a Veterinary University and a hostel for dogs.
Conference
Kollam Mayor N. Padmalochanan presided over the function. Earlier, the State conference was inaugurated by Kollam MP, P. Rajendran. DCC president Sooranad Rajashekaran also addressed the inaugural function.
