Higher allocation proposed

Staff Correspondent

HASSAN: Minister for Women and Child Development H.K. Kumaraswamy said he had sent proposals to Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, who also holds the Finance portfolio, to allocate Rs. 100 crore in the coming budget for the Women's Development Corporation. At present, Rs. 10 crore had been allotted to the corporation, which, he said, was inadequate. Mr. Kumaraswamy also told presspersons at Government Guest House in Hassan on Saturday that the construction of 700 anganawadi buildings was under way in the State and it was nearing completion.

The Minister said a Stree Shakti Bhavan would be constructed in every district at a cost of Rs. 10 lakh, at which women's self-help groups could market their products.

Mr. Kumaraswamy said there was also a proposal to construct Stree Shakti Bhavans in the taluks at a cost of Rs. 5 lakh.

He said Rs. 2 lakh had already been released to each taluk.

He said the Government is making all efforts to waive farmer's loans but Congress is making false propaganda against the Government. The minister was in Hassan to attend the religious discourses of Jain muni Tarun Sagar.
