BHUBANESWAR : Apprehending that their marriage might not be approved by their parents, two youngsters committed suicide by jumping before speeding trains here on Saturday morning. The victims have been identified as Ajit Sahu (24) and Jyotsna Biswal, both belonged to Settlement Colony of Sambalpur, 350 kilometres from here. Sources said both Ajit and Jyotsna wanted to get married against the wishes of their families and fled from the houses about three days ago. They reportedly stayed together in Bapuji Nagar area of the city. On Saturday morning, they were believed to have returned from Berhampur and were planning their future course of action in Bhubaneswar railway station. Eyewitnesses said the couple were afraid of facing police action, as the girl had reportedly not attained the age of 18 years.
Tragic fate
Subsequently, the two decided to take the extreme step. First Jyotsna jumped before a goods train and died on the spot. But Ajit could not muster courage to follow suit. Meanwhile, people gathered around the boy and convinced him not to commit suicide. Even as he was gaining sense of normalcy, the moment of madness again prevailed upon him. The boy pushed the people who surrounded him and jumped before Tapaswini Express at around 6.15 AM. The youngsters had reportedly informed their family members about the suicide decisions before, police said. Getting the information, their family members have since reached the city.
