Handloom exhibition

Chennai: Handlooms and handicrafts from all over the country are on display at the M.V. Jayaraman Convention Centre at MVJ Towers, opposite Ega Theatre. The exhibition is being conducted by the Art and Craft Exposition.

A wide variety of designer, ethnic wear and jewellery, saris, salwar sets in cotton and silk, hand printed ikat or tie and dye fabrics called bandhas in Orissa, saris from Sambalpur and Cuttack, Bomkai, Katki and tussar sarees and kurtas are available.

Craft items include `Khadipathara' and Kochilapathara, Khandolite or Sahanapathara and Baulapathara and black granite or muguni pathara stones works. A majority of craftsmen come form the Baulagadia and Nilgiris regions. Visitors can also choose from ethnic and fusion designer wear from Kolkata, Punjab and Gujarat, besides bedspreads, lamps, gift articles, bags and Raja Ravi Verma prints from Kerala.

The exhibition will be on till January 15 at the Rajalakshmi Hall.
