State to aid major surgeries of hearing-impaired, says YSR

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy asked the Society to Aid the Hearing Impaired (SAHI) to form a society in each district to identify a mandal and make it deaf-free.

Speaking to representatives of SAHI here on Saturday, he said the Government would render all possible assistance to make a mandal in each district deaf-free as a pilot project.

He pointed out that the Government was sanctioning Rs. 2 lakhs for every major surgery for the hearing-impaired.

According to SAHI, about 2,500 children are born totally deaf or seriously hearing impaired every year in Andhra Pradesh.
