HYDERABAD: Ranga Reddy region of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation on Friday evening operated a record number of 842 special buses of all categories and ferried a whopping 34,000-odd number of passengers. Regional Manager S. Nagaraju said this was a record high by a single region in 75 years of the corporation's existence. The 34,000-odd passengers is in addition to the estimated one lakh passengers who use the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (Imliban) terminus everyday. The revenue earnings and other particulars are yet to trickle in.
ATB agents
Of the 842 buses, 303 were operated directly through Authorised Ticket Booking (ATB) agents from the outlying areas and other points including A.S. Rao Nagar, BHEL, ECIL, Dilsukhnagar and Ameerpet. The major destinations include Ongole, Vijayawada, Khammam, Mahbubnagar, Kurnool, Anantapur, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati. On Saturday too, the region operated about 700 special buses to different destinations across the State and beyond, including 265 through ATB agents. About 90 buses were used from the old Central bus station hangar in Gowliguda, he said.
