GUNTUR: J. Suresh Babu, who took over as chairman of the Tobacco Board on Saturday, said electronic auction system would be introduced at all auction platforms soon. He advised tobacco growers to properly grade their produce before bringing it for auction. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Babu, who had earlier worked as executive director and in-charge chairman for the last one year, said that efforts were under way to reduce the total number of auction days so that the quality of the produce was not adversely affected. The existing system of using firewood for curing tobacco would be stopped soon.
Fine collected
He said that about Rs. 100 crores had been collected from tobacco growers in the form of fine and the money would be used to take up welfare activities.
