Credit cards `misused' by the duo for shopping

  • Banks lose Rs. 8.5 lakhs due to the credit card fraud
  • Another foreign national held for alleged overstay

HYDERABAD: City police on Saturday arrested two Nigerians on charge of duping various banks to the tune of Rs. 8.5 lakhs misusing credit cards of others.

Another foreign national Salvatore Dilisi, 39, hailing from Liberia, was also held for alleged overstay without the Government's consent, a press release said.

    Mastermind

On a tip-off, the Commissioner's Task Force (West) team picked up Nigerians Chimex Atan, 35, and Olasunkanmi Olaiya, 24, while they were purchasing some phones on R.P. road. Atan claimed that he was living in Delhi along with his wife who was pursuing a post-graduate course there. He recently came down to city to meet another Nigerian Coolio, the absconding alleged mastermind behind the credit card fraud.

Olaiya maintained that he wanted to go to London but his travel agent sent him to India and asked him to meet Coolio.

With the help of Coolio, the duo secured credit cards that were in the names of others and were misusing the same by purchasing expensive mobile phones and laptops.

    Xerox copies

Police are yet to ascertain how Coolio secured credit cards of others. He would make fabricated xerox copies of passports in the names of those credit card holders. Showing those copies to shop owners for identification, he would purchase costly goods by swapping the credit cards. A hunt is on for him.

Dilisi claimed he was a cloth merchant. He was arrested for overstaying in the city though his passport expired on October 19 last.

Inspector B. Limba Reddy and Sub-Inspectors K. Narsinga Rao, L. Raja Venakt Reddy, P. Sreedher and V. Umender carried out the arrests.
