Seminar on need for railway line

VFPCK outlet opened

KOCHI: Vegetables and Fruits Promotion Council Kerala (VFPCK) has opened another outlet `Sasya', fresh vegetables and fruits supermarket, in the city. The new outlet was inaugurated on Friday by Chief Executive Officer of the council T.R. Gopalakrishnan at Madathikkunnel Building (below SBT office), Kathrikkadavu. — Staff Reporter

Protest against eviction `threat'

KOCHI: Programmes of development "imposed" on the people by successive Governments are against the interest of society in the State. The land deals and eviction in the name of development that were taking place in Ernakulam district were examples of this, said C. R. Neelakandan, social activist, here on Saturday. He was speaking at a seminar organised at Maharaja's College Centenary Auditorium by the coordination committee for people facing eviction in Ernakulam district. — Staff Reporter

Yukthivadi sanghom plea

KOCHI: Kerala Yukthivadi Sanghom general secretary K.N. Anil Kumar has urged Devaswom Minister G. Sudhakaran to initiate steps to put an end to the "hoodwinking of people" in the name of ``makarajyothi'' at Ponnmbalamedu in Sabarimala. Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Anil Kumar alleged that the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) with the help of the Government was cheating thousands of pilgrims at Sabarimala every year on the day of `Makaravilakku', by lighting an artificial light.
