India needs to score big runs: Ganguly

KOLKATA: Former captain Sourav Ganguly stressed that the Indian team needs to score big totals to be successful against a team like the West Indies.

Speaking to media during a felicitation programme organised by Tata Indicom here on Sunday, Ganguly said that the team's recent record against the West Indies in the one-dayers was not very encouraging "because we did not put up enough runs on the board."

"We need to score 280 and above to give them a competition,'' he added.

Ganguly, who is making a comeback to the one-day side, said he was ready to play in any position. "I have done well partnering Sachin (Tendulkar). So, if I am asked to open, I will have no problems," he said.

Commenting on his own form he said, "I am happy with what I have done in South Africa and would like to continue with the form" in the upcoming matches. — Principal Correspondent
