Consumer forum penalises mobile service provider
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
The Karnataka State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has asked Spice Communication to give compensation for wrongly giving the mobile number of a subscriber as customer service number.
Paul G. Brahmakulam was given a number in 1997. In 2002, Spice Communication issued an advertisement giving Mr. Brahmakulam's number as the "Consumer service number". Mr. Brahmakulam had to receive many calls and he had to pay Rs. 31, 500 as the incoming calls were being charged.
He filed a compliant before the District Forum, Bangalore Urban, First Additional, which dismissed it. On appeal, the State Commission termed the act of the telecom service provider as "deficiency of service." It directed the service provider to pay a compensation of Rs. 40,000 within two months.
