Bollywood finds mention

K. Venugopal

Cebu: Bollywood got an unexpected reference at the talks India had with ASEAN leaders at the annual summit meeting here.

Joint productions

Briefing newspersons after the talks, Commerce Minister Kamal Nath said that there was a suggestion by one of the countries (Malaysia) that there be a joint production of Bollywood films by Indian and ASEAN producers and directors.

"They said the actors and actresses are well known [in their country]. They do not understand the Hindi songs, but they sing them. They like the beat," the Minister said.

"I do not know whether we can bring this into the FTA [Free Trade Agreement], but this is another area which can provide an incrementality to our relationship," he said.
