BIJAPUR: K.C. Kalappa, member of Khadi Commission, has urged the Centre to adopt a uniform policy on khadi industries across the country. Inaugurating a weeklong Suvarna Khadi Utsav at Kandgal Hanmantharay Kalamandir here he said khadi and village industries were in shambles as none of the States had a specific programme to support the sector, and hence needed a uniform policy. Those working at the handloom units were getting only over Rs. 30 a day, and it should be increased to at least Rs. 55 a day. Basangouda R. Patil Yatnal, MLA, inaugurated the exhibition of khadi goods. MLAs Appasaheb Pattanashetti and M.B. Patil participated.
