Bangalore: The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) will organise its 12th all-India conference here from Wednesday to Sunday. Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, CITU secretary W.R. Varadarajan said the conference would focus on issues such as price rise, increasing communal clashes and the economic policies of the United Progressive Alliance Government. The conference would also discuss ways of consolidating the trade union movement as a follow up to the nationwide strike on December 14. Labour conditions in the IT sector would be reviewed, he added. General secretary of the reception committee S. Prasanna Kumar said the "anti-working class laws" being introduced by the State Government "with greater haste than the Union Government" would also come up for review. CITU State secretary S. Varalakshmi said 50,000 women were expected to participate in the rally. CITU president M.K. Pandhe and general secretary Chittabrata Majumdar will address the inaugural session at the Palace Grounds at 10 a.m. On Saturday, there will be deliberations on subjects such as unification of international trade union movement, judiciary and working class, 11th Five Year Plan, WTO - issues and challenges, and special economic zones. As many as 2,500 delegates from across the country and representatives from 35 countries will attend the conference.
