Call to adopt monument sites

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: Conservationists have sought cooperation from corporate houses in order to overcome inadequate government funds and staff to conserve monuments in the state.

Addressing a seminar organised by Bhubaneswar chapter of Indian National Trust For Art And Cultural Heritage (INTACH), former Union Culture Secretary and renowned poet, Sitakanta Mahapatra stressed on the need for impressing upon corporate houses to adopt monument sites on one to one basis. "The Archaeological Survey of India does not possess adequate staff and resources. The attempt to attract corporate funds as supplemental resource through National Corporate Funding initiative has not met with desired success," he said.

Speaking on the occasion, former Vice Chancellor of Sambalpur University Priyambada Mohanty Hejmadi said beside cultural heritage the industry must come forward to take care of environmental heritage such as endangered Olive Ridley Turtles and other places of bio-diversity importance
